Frequently asked questions

  • I am registered with all major health funds, and offer on-the-spot claiming for acupuncture treatments.

Please note a couple of funds, including HCF, are not able to be claimed through my Healthpoint terminal, and will need to be claimed manually.

As I am also registered as a Chinese herbalist, these consultations are claimable under 'Chinese herbal medicine consultation' which is covered by some health funds.

  • Most of my clients who are nervous about needles have been pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and relaxing my acupuncture treatments are.

To ensure your session is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, I only use high quality, sterile, surgical stainless steel needles, and also apply a range of comfort measures to minimise any discomfort involved and ensure your session is as comfortable and relaxing as possible.

Let me know if you are nervous about needles (or have needle phobia) before your treatment, and we can discuss whether ‘minimally invasive’ acupuncture is right for you. This involves using minimal quantity of extra fine needles in low sensitivity areas only.

  • I am open 5 days a week, including from 7.30am Mondays & Thursdays, and until 6pm Wednesdays.

    Here are my opening hours:

    Monday 7:30-12pm
    Tuesday: 8:30 to 5pm
    Wednesday: 12pm to 6pm
    Thursday: 7:30am to 12pm
    Friday: 8:30am to 5pm

  • Acupuncture acts via various physiological mechanisms, which vary with the type of acupuncture treatment used. In summary, it regulates your body, activating its inbuilt self-healing mechanisms, prompting it to return to a state of 'homeostasis', ie health and balance.

Some of the specific ways it can act include improving blood flow, stimulating the release of neurotransmitters and other pain-relieving biochemicals, reducing inflammation, modulating the immune system, and regulating the nervous system.

Note there are many different types of acupuncture treatments available, which each have different functions.

For more information about acupuncture's various physiological effects, check out www.evidencebasedacupuncture.org.

  • Yes, I use sterile, single-use acupuncture needles in my treatments.

In Australia, acupuncture needles are regulated as medical devices, and only single-use acupuncture needles are permitted.

  • This depends on a variety of factors such as the condition being treated, how long you have experienced the issue, and your age. Generally, the longer you have experienced something, the longer it will take to fix. I can give you a clearer idea of how many sessions you will need after a consultation.

Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, and different results are achievable with different treatment plans.

For women’s health / gynaecological issues / pelvic pain, it takes several cycles to experience significant changes - expect to work together over at least 3-6 cycles. For fertility, expect to work together weekly over at least 3-12 cycles.

For most issues you will start to feel subtle changes within 3-4 treatments (autoimmune conditions can take longer to respond).

  • There have now been over 13,000 studies into how acupuncture works (including almost 1000 systemic reviews). Acupuncture has “moderate to strong evidence of effectiveness in the treatment of 46 conditions” and evidence of effect for117 conditions.

  • You are welcome to bring someone with you to your consultation. In most instances, I will get them to step out before your treatment begins - this enables me to give your treatment my undivided attention.

  • Yes, your sessions and information provided is kept confidential.

(There are a couple of specific scenarios in which I would be legally required to break this , but these are very rare and unlikely).
